Move forbidden objects that are blocking construction
« on: March 21, 2008, 02:11:00 pm »

It took me a long time to realize that my dwarves weren't dumping the broken bolts blocking my new platinum bridge because the bolts were auto-forbidden on being fired. Naturally they didn't build the bridge because the bolts were in the way. It'd be nice if dwarves would shift any unclaimed objects that block construction, much as they move rocks out of the way if they're in the way of a new workshop.

Yes!  A thousand times yes!

I'd like to possibly add that dwarves shift anything that is unclaimed and blocking construction.  Though they'll do it for workshops, and possibly beds, other objects (such as coffins) will suspend if there's anything blocking their spot.

Well, sometimes construction gets blocked because the item in the way is already claimed for some other project. I'm fine with that - if a dwarf won't place a coffin because the rock in the way is needed to build a wall somewhere (or, more likely, a stone mug), then if he moved it, the dwarf on his way to pick the rock up would probably get confused.

It's specifically that dwarves won't even pick up forbidden items to make room for a new construction that I'd like to see changed.
