I never understood the stigma behind necroposting. If you have something to say about a subject you might as well say it.

It's generally alot more effective to make your own topic, than have it get buried at the end of somebody elses.

The way I see it, the only reason to yell at people for posting new threads is when the forum is spammed. Mostly I'm thinking for the cat-mouth bug. Even then I think there could have been a more cohesive standard for dealing with that, rather than yelling at every dam person who made a thread.

There is no concrete evidence of that. You just hear people say that every now and again.

And even then its not really hurting anyone.

It can cause problems when people don't realize the thread was necro'd.  I've definitely seen threads where people reply to a two-year-old post to say that's not how the game works.

Yeah sometimes threads don't need to be Necroed... Most of the time it is just a Bump

This is specially endemic in the "suggestions" forum.

Agree with OP. If a topic's dead, it's dead. If you want to bring up something that was discussed two months ago, why not make a new topic? More often than not, the discussion in the old thread is buried under such a massive volume of spammy posts that it would be pointless to necro.

Just one thing: Use the Search function before you suggest that Toady implements explosives or magic. Or I will kill you.
