Exporting "local" world map?
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:23:05 am »

By "local" I mean the leftmost view on the embark screen.

I'm curious if there is any way to export or access the entire world at that level of detail. Has there ever been any research on where that stuff is stored in the save files?

Also, on a related matter, I assume the various world.dat/region-snapshot.dat files are compressed somehow, how would I go about decompressing them?

Probably nothing will come of it, but I thought it would be a neat project to try to assemble that information into a giant image file.

I think that is visible when exporting the biome data and elevation data from legends. Since it's such a large map, it only uses colored pixels rather than whole tiles- it's still huge.

Wow. I was hoping it would show features as well, but that is still a pretty damn impressive map.
Thanks.
