Bag-handed
« on: November 28, 2009, 11:39:05 am »

I've tried all the methods mentioned in the thread : http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=29097.0, (Well, not the magma one...) but I simply can't get my champion to drop the backpack in his left hand.

Any ideas?

Define an active Garbage Dump activity zone using (i), then mark the backpack in his hand for (d)umping.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

And if that isn't working, make sure you have enough refuse haulers and that something in the (O)rders menu isn't causing problems.

Technically, the above method doesn't make the soldier drop the item - it makes a random hauler walk up to the soldier and yank the item out of his hand.

Magma.
Any champion refusing orders needs more magma.

That gives me a very amusing mental image.

Magma.
Any champion soldier refusing orders needs more magma.

Champions you try to keep. They're a pain in the butt to replace.

Never assign them backpacks or waterskins though, they're buggy as hell and useless.

They take backpacks whether you assign them or not - thus, the only solution is to never make backpacks.

Or more magma. ;)
Not so worried about the 'expense' of training them in my well-established fort.
