It  probably should, it already tracks that water is salty.

If you expand the Temperature range during world gen to the bitter limits, you'll see more seasons, wet season, cold season, etc.. inbetween the normal 4 growing seasons.  Which is kinda nice, if you ask me.  Gives us time to make enough potash.  Could that be what caused this?  Did you tweak your launch parameters?  Maybe your warm biome is suffering from a cold season. *shrug*
