wierd soil look
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:47:21 pm »

ok, do i finally found a human town with magma near it. I embark, and as i look around, i see this weird looking soil trail. It looks linda like a chasm does, with a long, straightish run ending with splayed out branches, but there's no chasm on the map. there is a magma pool as well as a pipe, could those cause it?

It's normal for roads to pass through human towns, but they shouldn't begin or end with the same "delta" as chasms and rivers. Worldgen info and/or a screenshot would be helpful.

[edit] It's possible that the "splayed out branches" are just grass that's been trampled down by all of the Humans walking from place to place. Do they lead up to the various buildings?

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

no, it just starts at the edge of the map, and then just splays out randomly where the road ends in the town. I tunneled under it, and for all appearances, its just a random design on the soil. Grass is even starting to grow over it. for all i know, its the trail the humans made when they came to build the town, since the places it hits buildings seem to be walls

There's such a thing as unpaved roads, and that's most likely what you're seeing. Some unpaved roads are "furrowed", while others seem to just be a lack of grass and other plants.
