Better view to hand out jobs

Often when reassigning jobs to your dwarves, you need to compare their skills to see who's the more fit to do each task. Once you have done that, you need to do a second pass and go through their job lists, one by one, and try to remember who should get what.

It would be easier if you could manage all that from a table view (kind of similar to the Military view) where you'd see the info of a lot of dwarves at a time. There could be  a button to switch between Skills, Jobs and Inventory views.

The interface will be upgraded, it's planned; something like you said is probably close to what we get, and then more because Toady's always got something extra up his sleeve.

For now, there are a number of utilities here, some of which are suited to your purposes: http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Utilities

Search on the forums for a program called Dwarf Taskmaster, as well; I don't remember where I got it from or who made it, but it's what I use and it's quite suitable.  Props to its creator, especially if he/she implements last names soon (it only identifies dwarves by first name, which is cool until you have two peasants named Lokum and no visible way to tell which one is a siege operator).

Thanks, I'll look into those programs.

It's good to know the overhaul is already underway; I didn't want to look at the development pages for fear of being even more spoiled than by my visits to the wiki.

I read the thread on the Taskmaster program, but I couldn't make out whether or not you can set the job preferences as well. Merely viewing them doesn't help much.

What I need is something that gives me an overview and lets me fiddle with job settings and profiles in a good manner. Haven't found anything so far...

What you need is to use both the Dwarven Taskmaster and Dwarf Foreman (link on the wiki) programs. The first allows you to see the skills, the other one allows you to hand out the jobs. You can give custom job names to your dwarves to distinguish them individually in Dwarf Foreman.

Great programs by the way.
