Would he notice?
« on: November 22, 2009, 11:44:38 pm »

My mayor just demanded a clear glass window in his dining room. The second I met that demand, he immediately demanded another. Would he notice if I removed his last one and put a new one in there? My map is a mountain next to a desert, and the tower cap farm has zero yield (which is strange, I've very carefully kept all the young tower caps alive by restricting the squares they're in, and they are all alive), so wood is at kind of a premium especially with half the barracks beds filled with wounded soldiers.

Im dont know a whole lot about glass. But I dont think that removing the one, then adding it again would register as two. However, the only way to find out is to try it.

Are you certain it's a new demand? Demands aren't like mandates which disappear when met; the noble will keep the demand after it's been met, so you can't just take the item away. If he is actually demanding a second window, then I second the recommendation to try it and report back how it went.

As for your tower-cap farm, did you dig it out of stone and never dump the rocks? I don't have firsthand experience, but the popular story is that any loose item resting in a tile will prevent saplings from maturing.

I can confirm out of personal experience that if there still is an item on the same location as a towercap sapling, it will never grow enough to be cut.

I believe he will want a second window, and just taking away the first will not work, but after a while he will just forgot about the demand, and demands are optional. So if you have a better use for the wood, feel free to ignore him.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Ahh, so it's not a new demand. That explains it actually. I've never gotten a demand that wasn't either "Item in room" or something demanding a material I didn't have.

The irony is that right after I complained that the tower cap wasn't yielding plants, 6-8 of them matured. I very carefully dumped every stone in the farm, it's all sitting in one pile, and by using traffic designation all of them are still alive. So while the yield is low, at least it's not bugged.
