Obsidian walls and magma?
« on: November 21, 2009, 12:40:41 pm »

I'm am thinking on building a tower and pouring obsidian into it to make a cast, but I don't have any bauxite. If I make the walls out of obsidian, will they hold the magma without any problems?

And say if I did create a giant obsidian block, if I mined it out would it be considered undeground?

Thanks.

Constructions, like walls and floors, are completely indestructible. You can make molds for obsidian towers out of wood and they will be just as impenetrable as steel.

For the other question, the answer is no; once a tile is above ground, it is always above ground.

So if I built rooms in it then dwarves would think they're not underground? =/

I want them to go in the tower when I put "dwarvse stay inside" on.

'Underground' and 'inside' are two different tags entirely.  While it's true you can't make them 'underground', you can make them 'inside' by just keeping a roof over their heads.

:S
In on fort I had with a tower, dwarves refused to go in it when I had "dwarves stay indoors" on.

They also froze up if outside and refused to move.

Could someone explain how to use it? I don't want any more woodcutters to die during siege.

"Dwarves stay inside" really means "Dwarves stay in the dark/underground".

If you cast the obsidian tower inside a natural rock peak and then carved away the rock, the inside of the resulting obsidian tower would be dark/underground.

You can use tweak+"for each tile" to change indoor areas to underground, you just have to move your save to 40d if you are using some other version.
