Oh flaming champion...
« on: November 21, 2009, 06:47:29 am »

So I have several modded versions of the GCS, including one that lives in magma and shoots fire as well as webs. Making them very hard to kill. The three on my map have proven nearly invincible. However I think I may have found a dwarf badass enough to take them on.

It all started after the human caravan cleared out a couple ambushes for me. I sent my dwarves out to collect the goblinite, which naturaly got the attention of one of the flamespiders, who set the world of fire...just about time my two patrolling champions wandered by. The first died almost instantly in the blaze. Ducim Soakstandards, however continued to fight on !!fire!! eventualy he managed to force the flamespider to flee, but was too injured to give chase. Infact nearly everything on him was either yellow brown or red, except for his legs... fearing a firy end to my fort I closed the gate intending that he eventualy burn to death like everyone else has. Ducim however has not only survived alone in the wild on fire, but is actualy healing! his red wounds have gone yellow and several of the prevously brown wounds are now gone.

TL;DR
Champion on fire, my question is this, can I put him out? Or should I station him next to my carp infested river and have him take out as many carp as possible before he drowns?

I think this is one of those things nobody really knows for certain.

his items will burn out in time, and i do think that dwarf flesh can burn when the dwarf is a live.
so in time the flames will go out

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Update: Its been almost two full seasons since he caught fire... still burning, but most of his wounds are now fully healled, save for his entire nervous system, lungs, throat, and his left foot. Says he's winded.  Wonder if I can train him as an archer (if he ever gets outa bed), and if the arrows he shoots will be on fire.. be awsome to have a flaming archer XD.

Pour water on him. Water extinguishes things.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I'd actually suggest the carp river thing. But instead, carve a ramp near it so he can get out after killing them, being underwater from fighting carp might just put the fire out.

I think we have one of the most bad-ass dorfs alive.
