The Amazing Beardyman
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:19:24 am »

A friend linked me one of his videos on FB...and I'm utterly hooked.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qciVXUHTN10

Take beatboxing, add in a bunch of electronic equipment, and you get....pure awesome. Any fan of electronic music, techno, dance music, beat boxing should check him out. He's actually a pretty good vocalist too. What's funny about this video is he walks into a comedy club...and by the end of his set turns it into a dance club.

Even if you don't dig on dance music, techno or any of that, just take a sec to appreciate what he's done with the human voice, and how much effort, expertise and talent it takes to pull the whole thing together to make music.

It's fascinating to watch his face as he does it too, you can see him processing the sounds and beat, and sometimes his head goes side to side when he knows something isn't working. Or he gets the pained "oh god yeah" expression when it syncs. Everything he does is free style and experimental. It's like....watching water droplets shot with a high speed camera. Every single one is different, and you get hooked just waiting to see what the next one looks (or sounds like.)

All hail Beardyman.

How the heck is this possible?! That has got to be the most amazing thing I have ever heard someone do. Also, Beardyman is the most awesome title ever.

Well...

Take the tech
Plus the twitch skills necessary to use it
Plus solid music theory
Plus beat box/mimic experience
Plus improv/ad lib skills
Plus years of experience...

And you get close to beardyman. I get what he's doing, it's just the rate at which he processes stuff blows my mind. Think about the steps. He's got to listen to what he has, make the noise, capture the noise, find the downbeat to add it, then tweak all those values in the hundreds of ways that Kaos pad makes possible. Doing all that, and not keeping the same thing going for more than 30 seconds tops, that's crazy. It doesn't always work, and sometimes he gets repetitive or becomes uninspired...but when it works it's godly.
