Tropical Biomes
« on: November 20, 2009, 11:12:08 am »

Can anyone give me some advice on finding tropical biomes?

Currently I have generated about 10 worlds without a single tropical biome, is there some sort of bug in 40d that prevents them or has the universe read my mind and decided that an army of trained elephants is to awesome to exist?

Then everything near it exploded in a cloud of blood.

I had this problem recently. I searched the forums and found that... well. Tropical biomes are super rare in small worlds.

If you generate a large world they should show up without problems. That's what I did. Setting the temperature to be extra high doesn't work, you'll only get scorching hot "temperate" biomes.

Which can be funny. I set the temperature to low and embarked on a temperate marsh that was "freezing" and all the alligators just upped and died - food and boots for everyone!

The crossbow squad, 'The Bolts of Fleeing' wouldn't even show up.
I have an art blog now.

You can make a custom-sized world that is thin, so it won't be as hard on your computer.  The sizing is [width] x [height].  So make sure height is at max and make width whatever you would like.  This will get you tropical and tundra biomes.
