Miasmic Emergency
« on: November 14, 2009, 08:58:31 pm »

Um, my clothier went berserk because he had a mood, possessed, blah blah blah you know the story. I tried to assign him a tomb but it doesn't list him as available, so i marked his corpse and his belongings for dumping, i have a refuse pile aboveground, there are dwarfs with the refuse hauling labor enabled i think, but no ones been hauling it. It's causing miasma in my wonderfal dining room and i need a solution.

Can't go outside? That's the only reason I can think of.

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Items marked for Dumping go to a Garbage Dump zone, not a Refuse stockpile.

Also, if you mark a coffin available for burial (not a tomb), it will automatically be claimed by the dead. But if you've had other deaths you'll need more coffins, as they get claimed even by dead dwarves who have rotted away.

Tombs are rooms designated from a casket for your living dwarves.  Caskets set for burial will automatically get your already dead dwarves' remains.  This could just be some bones sitting somewhere else or it could be a fresh corpse.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Quoted for emphasis. This is the problem.

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

If you designate a graveyard stockpile outside with p-y that should do the trick if you unmark the body for dumping.

Do you have "All Dwarves can go outside" and not just "Soldiers can go outside" listed in your o menu?

Happened to me once. I was quite confused as to why nobody wanted to retrieve a dead sparring casualty in the barracks aboveground....
