« on: November 18, 2009, 02:21:04 am »

Ok I downloaded the dwarf fortress tutorial copy and when i go to run it, the top part of the screen is cut off and everything is shifted upwards. I checked out the wiki and tried messing around with the resolution but cant seem to get it working. Anyone able to help me?

Give us a picture, if you would? (In case you don't know how... Press printscreen on your keyboard, above the arrow keys, go to paint or some other convenient image editing program, press ctrl+v. Save it upload it somewhere, post us a link.)

Hmmmm.... Had this also sometime long ago... ow what was the fix.... Erm..... Erm....
Try changing [BLACKSPACE:NO] to [BLACKSPACE:YES] in the init....(your DF folder\data\init>>>init.txt)?

Nope, tried that and still the same problem.

At the moment i've resided myself to playing with the proper relase with graphics addon but i really want to go through the tutorial. My intial frustration and the outrageous price of the first trade caravan led to me build a channel around them and have them starve to death...

Anyway, any other ideas? (any help is appreciated)

What version of DF does the tutorial use? Is it one of the 40d# versions instead of official 40d?

Nevermind. I downloaded the tutorial file....
When you tried changing the resolution, what lines did you edit in the init.txt?

Also, if you really want to try the tutorial, you can also download the original DF, and replace the raw\objects folder with the raw\objects folder from the tutorial, and replace the data\save folder (if there is any, probably not with a clean install) with the data\save from the tutorial...

With resolution i was messing around with the Windowed X and Y axes lines (graphics). Also with the "original DF" does that means i am running without graphics pack? I am just starting to recognise what objects are and would prefer to go along with it if possible.

Does pressing F11 twice (press, wait, press) have any effect?

You can install original DF, and add your graphics pack of choice manually.

Well that allows me to run it in full screen without the problem but returning it to windowed just brings back the problem (which isnt the best solution as i cant read the tutorial that way).

Also, tried your suggestion martinuzz and i suppose ill play it like this. Thanks for help, seems kinda odd why that is happening but all i wanted was a way to get into DF!

Sometimes I'll get this with certain versions. Usually minimizing and reopening (as in, hit the windows key, click on DF in taskbar to minimize, and then again to open) fixes this. No idea if it'll work for you, but its worth a shot.
