Cyborgman's Dwarf Fortress Backup Utility Beta
« on: November 06, 2009, 09:49:56 pm »

I have here a utility for backing up saves (the entire save folder). It will remind you every hour to save and then backup your game automatically.

I created this because something weird happened to my Fort and I had to abandon and reclaim in the middle of a mega project.

Please report any bugs (or if it flat out doesn't work) as I wrote it in Autoit on Win7.
I also would appreciate feedback in general.

Uh, I'm pretty sure you can set DF to save an individual file every season.

Really? I know you can have it autosave but I couldn't figure out how to make it not overwrite the existing save.

Yes, you can.  And it doesn't overwrite the existing save, it creates a new, unique one.  Also, the DFFD being argumentative is no excuse to use Easy-Share...popup ads are evil.

That being said, I'll look into this as time permits...who knows, it might be black gold...or at least blue mud...

I found it...

It is in the init.txt file near the bottom.
Grrr... This is what I get for not looking these things up.

Oh, well... I got a lot better at scripting today.

What's DFFD? I used easy-share because I googled file upload and used the first one that worked and wasn't Rapidshare.

The DFFD, or Dwarf Fortress File Depot, is basically just a free fileserver dedicated to Dwarf Fortress.  It's owned/operated by a player who's name escapes me.  There is a LOT of good stuff there.  Take a look and consider joining up.
