Windmill Weirdness
« on: November 07, 2009, 08:58:06 pm »

I noticed recently that if I leave a gear assembly disengaged for too long, the windmill above it deconstructs itself. I originally thought this was due to ambush activity, but the fool sent to reconstruct it wasn't attacked. Has anyone else seen this?

That's normal mechanics behavior.

Because the windmill is being supported by the virtue of the gear assembly beneath it, when it's removed or disengaged it will collapse.

what Jim said...

additionally, you can build the windmill on a floor and THEN build the gear under it, and it will somehow transfer the power through the floor... and have no danger of deconstructing because it will be supported by the floor.

I always build a C-shaped Wall, with a Ramp leading up to the top of it... then build the Windmill on top of the Wall and finish off by de-constructing the Ramp.

That places the Windmill out of reach of casual vandals, and allows me to build the Gear Assembly inside the center of the "C"... directly under the center of the Windmill.

... it works for me...

By the way, if you ever make the mistake of building a ceiling over your windmill, thus converting it to "indoors" and causing it to stop working, you can just deconstruct the single roof tile over the center of the windmill.  This will cause it to work again.

Will the falling stone whack the Windmill?

If it collapsed it would, but the materials from an intentionally deconstructed floor (or anything else) drop to the ground harmlessly.
