I think derails are a lot rarer than people think.  Conversations evolve.  The topic shifts as new ideas are brought forward.  If a topic goes from Pro-Skub/Anti-Skub debate, to less hotly debated forms of skub, to products similar to skub, to the economy, I don't see that as a huge thing.  If you go into the topic at the tenth post, however, and say "This economy is wack", yeah, you're being rude to the OP.

Evolving conversation is the one reason why only the topic of a thread in GameFAQs can be moderated for being offtopic.

Though I think forceful change of topic could go under trolling or something.

As much as people criticise that sight it does often have... well... Spelling.
