Move entire stockpile to depot.
« on: December 12, 2007, 01:52:00 pm »

Sometimes I find it hard to remember the numbers of my various stockpiles when moving bins of goods to the depot. Here are a couple of ways to designate items to e moved to the depot that are more intuitive.

1) designate individual bins from the "looking around" view (k)
2) pick an entire stockpile to transfer to the depot by either
2a) having a "take from" option at the depot similar to interstockpile transfer.
2b) having a "send contents to depot" in the q menu for each stockpile
3) Pick item types to move to the depot with the same kind of menu used to designate stockpile contents. This would override stockpiles, allowing items of the matching type to move moved from stockpiles to the depot. With this method you could simply state that all masterpiece gold mugs and unusable clothing of any type be moved to the depot.

Also (haven't updated since two version-weeks ago, so I don't know if this is still true or not) have the option to move things to the trade depot even when there is no caravan on the way. If I have no bins, it's going to take a while to shift all those mugs when I only have the first seven dwarves to move it. Sometimes longer than it takes the caravan to reach the depot, unload, pack up, and leave.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

Alfador, you can keep a trade stockpile close to your depot, configured to hold the kind of things you want to trade. If you combine that with a stockpile option to "move all contents to depot" available when the traders arrive, then filling the depot with your trade goods would be as easy as one action made at one stockpile a few squares from the depot.
