Thinking of starting livestream(cancelled)
« on: October 20, 2009, 02:31:02 pm »

so i'm thinking of starting my own livestream,as the title says. i have a good amount of reasonable quality games i could play on pc, but my graphics card is horrible. so my main question is,can i use procaster or another program to stream live from my tv to my computer? i ask because i have a very wide variety of choices depending on what viewers want from my tv,from dead space to resident evil 5,fallout 3 to cod5,upwards of 23+titles for console.

I think that the problem with procaster is that it put CPUs through the wringer, not the graphics card.

Have you tested it with your consoles to see if it works?

Most people only play SNES, N64, DOS, NES, etc. ROMs anyway, if you stick with those it won't matter.

true ;D and i was going to fall back on those, or mount and blade, if i can't get it  to work for console, but i see alot of others like reasonableman playing the oldies, and i really don't want to encroach on his territory so to speak.

Nah, the reason people are playing the old games is either love, or that they are the only games that work reasonably with procaster running.

well, i can find absolutely zero info on the interwebs about streaming xbox to pc, so i'm assuming it requires a high quality video camera setup, something i don't have.
good news, mount and blade seems to work ok with procaster, and in semi decent quality. if anyone has suggestions on what they would like to see,let me know, if i decide to go through with this i should have something up late tonight or tommorow.
(suggestions for old games preferably:my computer cannot handle anything more graphic intensive than m&b with procaster)

You need some sort of cable set up. Lots of equipment, about £20 minimum cost.
about 45$ here,a reasonable price,if i knew what i needed i would consider buying it,but i have no idea what it would be.

What you can get is just a video input card dealie, something like these over here.

But as far as PC games go, I, and others, have been digging old games up for a couple reasons: 1, they mostly run in their own windows, so we can watch the chat, 2, they're free, 3, nostalgia. Other people might run it because they're also low-intensity, but I can stream Fallout 3 even if I wanted to. Heck, a while ago, I was streaming Crysis; Procaster isn't that big of a resource hog. Still, as far as streaming a console goes, you could buy a capture card like that, or just aim a webcam at your TV, even. Though honestly, that seems like a bit more of an investment than livestreaming is worth, if you don't have either one already.

thanks for linking those cards, but like you said, big investment for mostly only my enjoyment.
