Screw CAN_LEARN wardogs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

(And yes, temperature is on.  Doublechecked.)

(Also, no idea why it's forbidden.  I can't unforbid it.)

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

Unforbid it from the stocks menu.

I've seen flies remain in magma pipes and not burn away. Vermin being immune to the effects of temperature would be my guess.

Yeah, birds wandering around in a magma pipe is a pretty common sight if the pipe is exposed to the surface. Far as forbidding it, have you had any recent "Cage Animal Cancelled: Animal Inaccessible" messages?

If you have, then that cardinal is probably being forbidden by the dwarf cancelling the job because they can't reach it. To permanently remove its forbidden status, you'll might have to channel somewhere so that it can fly out of the magma.

The cardinal probably got foribidden as a result of (d)umping it into the magma. In order for a dwarf to retrieve it, you'd need to assign it to a cage, at which point you might start getting cancellation messages.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
