Star Citizen: Last call for early backer perks.
« on: October 30, 2013, 11:07:58 am »

Hi all, It has been a while since my last post, and well over a year since I was active here, but I still have a fondness for this community. I am eagerly awaiting the next release of DF, and will definitely make time for it when it comes out.

But that is not what I am here to talk about. I wanted to make my services available to anyone here new to SC. If you decide that you would like to fund the game now (or funded after the original/veteran backer cutoff) and would like access to the perks that those founders have, I can get them for you. How this works is you head over to robertsspaceindustries.com, sign up and buy a package. Then you will gift that package to me, I will melt it down, convert it to the package you want (plus little extras if there is extra funds, the smallest gifts are in increments of $5, so we should not have to worry about extra) and send it back to you. The backer packages I have access to start at $35 (I think I am in the second cheapest bracket, but I have no way to compare).

Yes, this requires that you trust me. If you want to get a feel for who I am you can search some of the old posts I have here, or head over to the SC forums and see how I conduct myself there. If you are in the Oregon Eugene/Springfield area we could also get together for coffee. Whatever makes you comfortable. The point is I want you to have the opportunity to be a part of this game, and I specifically came to these forums because the community here is one I would like to play with. I am not sure what other forums I will post this offer on, but I can already tell you that I will not be posting it on the CoD forums :-).

The cutoff date for this is Nov. 24th, as that is the last date the original/veteran backers have access to these perks.

So if you have already dropped some cash into Toady's hat, and if you are looking for a giant space sim with combat, trade and exploration elements, with a giant online universe as well as the option to set up your own private micro universe, and if you have the desire to fund a giant triple A title that is 100% funded by bakers (free of industry publisher interests) and you understand what it means to fund a game not even in alpha yet, then head over to the SC forums and send me a PM (same monicker as here, lucusloc).

I will try and respond to questions here as I can, but these forums are not on my daily cycle at the moment, it would be best to PM me on the SC forums.

So is this looking like a scam to anyone else or just me?

I'm not too sure I even understand the service. Buy a backer package and then gift it and then get it back for?

Sounds delicious.

Well, Cookie clicker certainly takes on a different meaning when it is based on a true story.

Also why isn't there a link?

The benefit is you get the early packer perks (mostly just LTI, but I think my entry packages also include alpha/beta access whereas new backer entry packages do not) as well as a cheaper package (I get the packages for less than someone who signs up today, so you can use the extra funds to get little extras like ship skins or various ship upgrades). I did put the link for SC in there, it just does not have the http: on it, so it didn't get converted to a clicky url.

I did mention that there was some trust involved. Like I said, you can search these forums for me, I was an active member a while ago and still like this community.

SC is not going to be fore everyone, backing a game before it is even in alpha will be for even fewer people, and trusting some random guy on the internet will be for a small minority. But If I can pull in one or two people who were on the fence and get them involved as active members I will consider it a job well done.

If might qualify as a scam, and it certainly qualifies as spam.

The topic is not intended to lead to discussion of a game, it was only posted to sell a dubious product. The praise for toady he put in that post doesn't change that.

It's possible he might have found a way to dupe keys or whatever other authorization token or method that Star Citizen uses to register these "perks" for your game account, but that's highly doubtful. This would be all over the internet by now if that were the case.

I think it's just fraud.

I don't think it's a fraud, I just think it's a rather pointless advertisement when there is already a thread on this game with people already offering the same services and who have a reputation of handling this already.

This is just a duplicate thread that doesn't need to exist.  Use search next time, yadda yadda.

I can tell you are unfamiliar with how the gifting mechanism works in SC. Basically I can buy a package for myself, and it comes with some of the perks I get for being an early backer. I can buy as many of those packages as I want, and those perks transfer with the package. So basically you buy a package, transfer it to me, I take that package and trade it in for one of my better packages and give it back to you.

I just thought I would come over here and let people know that I was available to do this if anyone was holding off on supporting SC because they could not get some of the early backer perks (it is a common discussion over on the SC forums). I was hoping to nab a few high quality and polite players for the SC universe, and I knew this forum contains a high percentage of those kinds of players.

I understand that there are a lot of people adverse to that much risk (risk in that the game is not finished and no one really knows how good it will be, and risk in that you are trusting some random guy from the internet), and skepticism is good to have. I just figured I was as good a liaison as any since I have a history on this forum and you can see my previous post to verify that I am just a normal gamer and not some random cleverbot (for example, here is my first post ever on this forum, in 2009: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=17513;area=showposts;start=495. I never did finish it, as it died the usual lag-death of all my forts).

I am not doing this "for profit" and am merely trying to interest people who either have not heard of SC, or who may be on the fence about getting a package. I decided to come over here now as this is that last month that a lot of the early backer perks will be available. After Nov. 24 this will be moot, as everyone will have access to the same packages.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go read that old thread about one of my first megaprojects. . .

Yeah I'm totally unfamiliar with the gifting mechanism of SC which is why it seemed a bit dodgy for me. Still slightly dodgy though because as you say it is a trust issue but it sounds like you have good intentions so thanks for clarifying. (I'm still not going to back it, Elite for me, may buy SC once it's released)
