the land of friendly goblins
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:18:49 am »

there is a realm im playing in. There were two goblin civs. One was destroyed, the other only has one fortress. After attempting to destroy the fortress in adventure mode (only to be killed by its resident demon) i decided to launch an expedition to the fortress.

but when i arrive all the goblins and their demon leader are firendly. So i have some questions:

Will i get any sieges, since logically this is where sieges must come from?

ATM i only have the dorf civ i came from regiestered in the civ viewer, when the goblins register will they turn unfriendly?

If a hardcoded siege or ambush does arrive will the goblins in the fortress turn against me?

If i destroy this fortress will the goblins be purged from the realm permanently? (no sieges?)

whats the easiest way to start a war with a friendly fortress on ur map?

This is a known issue.  As soon as other goblins appear for a siege (I think an ambush might work too) all the goblins and the demon will turn hostile.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

Yeah, you need to start digging. NOW. As soon as the first siege comes you can kiss your fanny goodbye.

You all do know that we everytime we gen a world in DF, a new universe is created somewhere, and everytime we delete a save we kill a whole world?
Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

How does that work exactly when there isn't any place for the goblins to come from? That's what the original poster is asking here.

Does the mere existence of a goblin civilization with access to you randomly generate a siege even if the current location is their only fortress or do they need to be able to send forces from another location to be able to siege or send an ambush?

Why not?  I've had fortresses get migrants even though there were no surviving dwarven civilizations.

My suggestion: wall them all in while you can.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

a lot of thier best people will be on the roof, so cut out all but one of the stairs leading up there, and wall the way to that one up. that way, you'll be able to fight them when you want

There are dwarves that are nothing but useless sacrifices - Miners are not one of them.

I speak from experience here, if you are going to wall up the tower make sure the demon is inside, because he can fly right off the roof. (facepalm ensues)

Also from that same game I can say it's possible to get an ambush without triggering them to be hostile. The resident demon even helped me fight them off (read: they were dead before I could react, legendary demons with maxed stats are scary)
However, this may not always be the case because I had two goblin civs - I don't know if the tower goblins and the ambushers were from different civs or not (or even how to tell) but it's possible that had something to do with it.

Just take advantage of their friendliness before they decide to kill you.
