Should we wait patiently for our proto-nation's founding to start divvying out proper chambers, or just seize the reigns of power now while everyone's confused?

If the latter, whatever position I wind up in, I'll be writing a constitution and leading a popular revolt to see everyone put in their most fitting seats, and ensure a more orderly division of power in the future.
I'm most suited to the military or law enforcement so that sort of revolt wouldn't do much to me.

Maybe put multiple cities to start in, so we can avoid a fight to the death over roles. Count me in as a Sage equivalent to AoR (research and stuff), specializing in weapons technologies. Glorified Sticks FTW.

I shall get rich as a merchant, and then buy myself a city somewhere nice.

Oh, and if you encroach on my business turf, I'll slit your packmules' throats.

I believe being the Head of Construction may suit me well. The city will become a beautiful work of art.

You should probably all work out exactly what kind of proto-nation you're going to be running before you all start trying to sieze power, considering some nations may not have some of the jobs you're trying to grab.

Actually i'll have to write up a player list too.

Steampunk. Ruled by a wizard council. You know you want it.

We need it to be ruled by an association of guilds for each craft, including production of corpses and a general populace representative. Any thoughts?

Bah, fine. Civilization first then.
Steampunk. Ruled by a wizard council. You know you want it.
Awesome as this would be it might be a little hard to actually implement.

We must simply take a regular, human city, ruled by a king, nestled in a fertile river valley, bevalleyed by woody hills. Maybe with a mountain tile or two. Technology should include copper working, writing, archery, irrigation, and animal domestication. We will be poised to leap straight into action. The city does not have to be balanced because there is only us.

I'll work with whatever you people decide.

Neruz: I suggest that you include mercenaries. I was thinking something like they only become available when currency is discovered, have equal cost to regular units but only in gold, so, for example, unit costs 1 food and 1 gold, mercenary unit would cost 2 gold. I was also thinking that they would have a loyalty counter or something which goes down if you are unable to pay them and up if you pay them extra, and that tech level would vary to a small degree. How does that sound?

Not really, if you guys end up with multiple leaders (council, autocracy etc) then the city resources will get evenly split amongst the leaders and you'll all get to fight over who sets diplomatic policy and meets with forign dignitaries.

On the note of mercs; there will be other NPC towns as i have said, and i'm sure you'll be able to borrow some armies from them, for a price.

You might even find wandering Merc bands after an economy is well established, living off war. Who knows.

The other thing you guys need to decide on (apart from civ type) is race type; what speshul bonases and penalties do you want? And so forth.
