Any fun things to do with a blind soldier?
« on: October 17, 2009, 11:58:57 am »

I have a low skill wrestler who was blinded by demons. He also has a mangled head and two moderate nervous injuries, so he will be of no use as a soldier when he recovers.

Any interesting things to do with blind dorfs?

Put him in the front lines during sieges, use him for tasks that will end up killing one of your dwarfs, feed him to carp, the possiblities are endless.

Nervous injuries never heal period.  Also, how did he survive a mangled head?

Anyway, he'll never never spar again with those nervous injuries, so he's totally useless as a soldier, but he might make a decent Fortress/Royal Guard.

Zactly.  That or the Royal Guard, if you have nobles who want such.

The fortress guard needs warm bodies to enforce unjust accusations, and the royal guard needs them so the royal can sleep well at night.  He's perfect.

Make a room surrounded by archery targets. Set him to practice with a bow.
 Watch the hilarity.

Use him to bait a trap. Preferably a trap with lots of explosions taking out a whole siege, so he can die with honour.

If you gave them a biome then the Elves may indeed start turning up with Wagons in cages.
Well, it does tie in to the fact that personality-wise, dragons are nothing more than gigantic, scaly, firebreathing cats.

The head should heal, but not nervous parts within it. Dwarves will be active with brown or light-gray injuries to nervous parts, though, from my experience.

But I'd say train him up against captured thieves until he's at champion status, then put him up against a siege on his own.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

Do note with normal weapons he'll only receive some minor negative effects to his accuracy. As a ranged weapon welder, his projectiles will fly everywhere.

This is something you must do.

Dwarves who "enter a martial trance" have no effect from being blind.

Play 'Pin the Tail On the Donkey' at his birthday party?  Make sure you blindfold him, too.

Just had the pleasure of getting masterwork adamantine plate mail courtesy of my legendary armorsmith.

I'll give it to Urist McBlind (his new name) and have him take sieges on all on his own.
