Feature finding trick
« on: October 17, 2009, 12:56:30 pm »

Have a hidden feature somewhere on the map, and you forgot in what map square it was? I found a neat way to find it - build a trade depot, then press D to get the caravan access map. You can now easily find where the feature is hidden; like this:

In this particular map, there's a bottomless pit there in the corner.

Yep, this is a known trick. But it's not known by everyone, so it's reasonable to remind people from time to time. Congrats on finding it yourself.

I sure as hell never knew that.

Also, until a more elaborate "prospector" system is introduced, I'll have no problem using it even if it is sort of an exploit.

Hopefully, that system will not only give us general locations for features, but also give you a preview, before embarking, of what minerals and resources are available in an area. That should tie in with the fortress-for-a-certain-purpose idea in some other thread I was posting in the other week.
