Volcanism Settings

I just recently changed versions of DF, and thanks to my lack of foresight, I didn't save the worldgen settings. I wanted to generate a world with lots of magma, but not with a ton of volcanos. I remember there was a setting with volcanism frequency, that would allow for magma pipe to appear in non igneous zones. I tried searching the wiki and the forums but nothing conclusive turned up. Does anybody know what the setting is?

There's two settings that affect magma availability: volcanism, and the number of volcanoes on the map. Volcanism affects general prevalence of igneous rock and magma pipes; volcanoes create mountains on the map with a magma pipe in the middle and other pipes spread across the local countryside.

yeah I remember that I had volcanism frequency set to something that made for some flexability when it came to building with magma. i just dont remember what the numbers were.

The parameters you're looking for are volcanism X-variance and volcanism Y-variance.  Though...  did you save the settings in your old version of DF?  You can get them from world_gen.txt in the data/init folder, if you didn't completely delete the old version.  Heck, if you still have an old save that used those world gen parameters, you can get them if you open the fortress, press escape, choose "export local image", choose at least one z-level (some should already be selected), and export.  Along with the images will also be a text file with the world gen parameters.

I dont have any of the parameters, no old saves and whatnot. i just wiped it clean after I decided to update my dwarf fortress.

A fair warning: if you generate a world with min/max volcanism set to 100, there will be no sedimentary rock in the entire world, meaning that you'll never, ever have any bauxite.
