There was a suggestion about making books and stuff. That would be nice- being able to have books completely about your fort's history. An adventurer could come along in the abandoned fort and nab the book, read it, sell it, burn it, whatever. Could generate appropriate quests to find books for people in villages and things.

If paper is implemented, I DEMAND that we have Dwarven Artists:

"This is an exceptional painting by Roy Goatsnuggles, entitled, "The Futility of Life". It is of dwarves and elephants. The elephants are trampling the dwarves."

I dunno... painting doesn't seem very dwarven to me. Humans are a different story, however...

I reckon that the dwarves would actually use sheets of metal and a typewriter or set of stencils to make their books..

Yeah I agree, they have their engraving as an equivalent as well.

Yeah, I expect that those may be tasks that dwarves would use paper for instead of stone. Dunno how it could be implemented though without being a bother...

It could act as a luxury item, another noble's demand; the book keeper (or whatever it's called) could definitely use paper, ink and a pen.

I also love the idea of a library, with books of history, fiction and what-not. You could trade them, copy them, collect them, buy more... having a large library could be a good source of prestige.

Not that prestige is worth anything ingame as far as I know. Though..

library > librarians > bigger library > monks > monastery/superiour stills/squad of free wrestling monksoldiers

:D

And I say libraries lead to monks & monasteries, 'cuz if I remember correctly, monks often copied books and amassed libraries of all sorts.

Or maybe I'm just being dumb. 8)

Well if libraries were to be put in then little dwarven children and adults aswell would be able to gain some skill in a area that they are reading about. Like you said about the different sections there could be a section about hunting or farming and they could gain a random skill in that area.
