It's possible the kobold, thinking it was cornered, attacked the wagon and managed to kill it. Check your (u)nits list for a Deceased wagon.

For some reason this reminds me of the Python sketch about the dead parrot wagon.  I'd like to complain about this wagon which I purchased not 'alf an 'our ago..
