[40d] Mechanic cancels build axle: cannot reach site.
« on: September 21, 2009, 03:00:44 pm »

For some reason, when building an axle (and I think gear assemblies too) in a one-tile hallway with stone on the ground, my mechanics will stop most of the way through (construction nearly done) with the error that they cannot reach site. I think this is related to the fact that there is stone on the site, but they won't move it. They finish the job (including moving the stone) if I unsuspend the job, but doing that many times gets annoying.

Any thoughts?

Could you post a diagram or screenshot that shows how the axle, mechanic, and stone are positioned in the hallway?

Both of the axles had stone on them. The jobs were suspended by the dwarves, but they finished fine after unsuspension.

Dwarves insist on moving stone to an adjacent orthogonal tile that doesn't have a pending building on it, and if they don't think they can clear the stone away, they cancel with "cannot reach site" (rather than "item blocking site").

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
