[39e] Caravan wagon moving reallly slow.
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:49:26 pm »

I got my first caravan on the autumn of first year and they seemed to be unloading their goods forever, until I noticed another wagon arriving at my trade depot at a speed of snail stuck in syrup.

Not sure if it's normal behaviour or is the wagon just really heavily loaded, but it was the first time I experienced anything like this.

I have a save of sorts to upload if it would have any importance :)

I had this same problem in [40d] with a human caravan.  It was so slow that the merchants decided they were leaving long before the last wagon ever reached the depot, and they embarked on their journey as soon as it reached the depot.  I completely missed trading with the humans because of this.

In fact, I recorded two movies of this behavior (excuse the crappy fortress layout, it's my first).  I don't have a site for uploading files (I don't trust most of them), so if you're interested, please suggest trusty uploader and I'll get the movies posted.

^^^ The DF Map Archive is excellent, as it allows people to watch the movie online without downloading it per se.  No guarantees on whether the movies will actually help much, though.

Caught in action at last!  Thanks.  Do you happen to have a savegame that illustrates this as well?  If so, it would probably be helpful to upload it to the DF File Depot.

I personally think it's much funnier when the opposite end of the spectrum hits this bug - namely, wagons that traverse the entire map in 3 seconds.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Done, but I'm not sure how much good it will do you.  This happened several dwarf years ago.

This is also the same save where a mechanic canceled linking a hatch >1600 times, but again, that happened several years ago.
