Just put a tameable tag on goblins. The build lots  of cage traps and make a goblin slave army to fight the goblins.

Not only is it a matter of idiotic civilians running toward the horde (must clean that trap or pickup that body, or just want to take a break) but also stupid marksdwarfs who run out of ammo and think "hey, there is a lovely bolt, right in the middle of the goblin army.  I think I will pick that one up".

Just to clarify, just put all your civilians into a huge squad (you can do that promoting stuff even without drafting them). In my last game I did that every time new immigrants arrived, and it works out quite nicely.

Well, I just sort of feel slightly guilty letting my nobles die.  I want all my dwarves to survive, even the useless ones.

Actually it can be a bit of a pain if you no longer have a manager or a bookkeeper.

Design a method of keeping them out of the goblins' path.  I have an "airlock" between the cliff face and the river.  When the siege comes, I raise the drawbridge and lock down my whole fort.  Then I get my troops organized and station them on the far side of the river.  Once the soldiers are over and the civs are safe past the river, I lock down the second drawbridge and open the front door (actually, I drain a moat, but...)

The goblins will still rush in, since they have a path to dwarves.  Just the only dwarves they'll meet are the heavily armed, well trained variety.  I accidently crushed a child though ... Be careful about that.  Heh.

Ugh, the last goblin siege I got, not even drafting the morons could stop them. They went to try to "pickup equipment" from the front hall.

Yeah, solution being to make sure you don't have lots of weapons laying around in your front hall.

Personally I do, but I built a second set of inner doors for that kind of thing, and since siegers are arriving with about 15 trolls now, I don't feel bad locking them to get my dwarves ready. (If my dwarves are big enough idiots to not be ready by then, and my marksdwarves can't hold the entrance, they deserve it.)
