 Yeah, my sister pretty much just figured out the game after I taught her how to dig and place buildings. I still need to check her fortress, she's having food problems.

I've been trying to get my siblings to join in, and even start a succession game between us.

That would be awesome. Too bad just about everyone I know is sick of listening to me talk about DF...

My sister, which hears me talk the most about it, is sick of my "obsession" with the game.

She'll turn over soon enough.

As for my brothers (me being the youngest of them), which I thought were geekier than I was, were astounded that I out-geeked them when they saw one of my fortresses in ASCII, and a couple roguelike conversions of other games (Diablo and Doom) I was playing. It was pretty funny. But I am unsure if they took interest in this game yet. It would be awesome if they did.

I'm sure they miss the point that half the fun is within the forums as well.

I had tried getting a friend to play after him listening to me talk about it too much. I sat him down and walked him through it, giving him suggestions. He was starting to do things for himself by the time I left and was doing alright. However, after him trying a few different embarks (or so he tells me) he coincidentally had acquired a new computer (his old one was a clunker) and Dwarf Fortress got lost in the slew of good looking games he got for it.

One thing that makes me laugh is that it was easier to convert him to Linux than it was to get him to play DF.

Of the 3 people i've introduced, one couldn't de-rar the tutorial file from TinyPirate, one got halfway through the tutorial and then bought another game, and the third...lost interest, I guess. I'm still not quite sure.

I have got several people to play it. None of them stuck with it. 2 of the people that want to play it, have no time too. I have another friend who really is fascinated by it, but has difficulties with the controls.

Wishing against hope my partner will someday, but he's an onliner. He's not shy of low graphics, he plays MUDs like Lusternia, etc, but he shakes his head whenever I load up a solo player. I think I enjoy his Wii more than he does. Although, he may have something against 2-player retro bomberman. We both let a little wee out when we play it.

No luck recruiting others, yet I think the best tactic is to wait for them to come to you.
