Are there any other settlers that lives in sinister or otherwise dangerous areas?
Not even goblins seem to settle in those places.

Zombie elephants and zombie elks are about as dangerous as the hippie workers smoking pot at 2am at your local Taco Bell: you roll up into the place, they don't know what's going on, nor do they care!

EDIT: Well, that's my experience in one haunted forest.  Werewolves are bad, zombie fish are reputed to be really-really bad.

jack johnson, raider has been shot and killed.

The above (including bbcode) neatly weighs in at 255 characters. Fallout meets DF

Elves. I have a few elf settlements on my current map in a haunted/terrifying forest right next to a haunted lake.

The only zombies I've seen so far are zombie hoary marmots which were laughably weak, and zombie mountain goats which were pretty weak too. zombies are just too slow to really do much damage.

skeletons are the real dangers  :(

As slow as a zombie is, at least you can take the limbs off of skeletons. They may not be threats but they're damned annoying.
