New feature?

Well, a forum search hasn't gotten me any answers, so I pose this question now.  New version related, of course.

In the corner of the screen, I have a blue S, and a red C.
Now I'm reasonably sure they weren't there the entire time.  Initially I thought these were graphical glitches, and didn't pay them any mind.  After various reloadings, rebootings, etc...they're still there, so apparently it's some feature I'm having trouble finding documentation about.

Really? There is a thread called "Red 'C' in the corner" right on the first page, one screen down.

....  Well, don't I feel silly now...
For what it's worth, I 'did' try "red C" as a search, but that particular thread didn't pop up.

Hold on, blue 'S'? I know 'C' is combat reports and 'H' is for Hunters, but what is 'S'?  ???

I think the S means there's sparring going on.  Since in the combat report, it mentions soldiers sparring in the same color blue.
