Speaking as a guy who has lived in California, Europe, Thailand, Salt Lake City, and Chicago... many in Southern Illinois have developed "Southern accents" typical to ones you'd find below the Mason-Dixie Line. Not the typical normal accent.

Colorado had some of the most "normal" speakers I've heard in terms of Americans.

It's odd.

Accordingly, I got: The West
Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

Followed by:
The Midland
Boston
North Central
Philadelphia
The Northeast
The South
The Inland North

I have a slight lisp that I didn't realize I had until I moved from California to Illinois, and they tried to put me in speech therapy over there in middle school. I may have developed it in the Netherlands. I speak faster than Midwesterners, but upon moving back to CA, I now speak slower than most Californians and tend to drawl out a few of my words slower. I just have a bastard accent now. Also, I still say soda, suck on it pop drinkers.

I've been trying to avoid speculating on what having 1/16th of the gene for it could induce in me.  And I really don't want to test.
