Using items marked for transport.
« on: August 25, 2006, 11:14:00 pm »

I don't have a perfect understanding of how these things work, so this suggestion might be totally wrong, but anyway...

Often I notice that a workshop is unable to use something that was produced right next to it, because the produced materials are immediately tagged for a haul job by some other dwarf.  Would it be possible to set things up so that, when necessary, haul jobs are overridden by any other type of job that wants to use the object?  It doesn't really make sense to wait for a hauling dwarf to trudge over and haul a freshly-forged bar of metal to a bin when there's a dwarf in the metalsmith's right next door ready to use it.

In general, if you have a stockpile, the item needs to be in it before it's used; and yes, it's annoying.

This is REALLY annoying when you're trying to make Potash for fertilizer, since you've got the bucket of lye RIGHT THERE in the workshop, but you have ot wait for somebody to put it in a barrel.
