Melting down objects made of new metals?
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:36:18 pm »

Lo all, I love modding this game. Its so... "Fun".

So i stole some code from the forum to add glass as a metal to DF.  Specifically this:

[MATGLOSS_METAL:GLASS]
[NAME:glass][ADJ:glass][COLOR:7:3:0]
[VALUE:2]
[SPEC_HEAT:500]
[MELTING_POINT:12718]
[BOILING_POINT:14968]
[WEAPON][WEAPON_RANGED][AMMO][DIGGER][ARMOR][ANVIL]
[DAMAGE_PERC:50]
[BLOCK_PERC:50]
[SOLID_DENSITY:7850]

THat goes into matgloss_metal, and adds Glass a weapon crafting metal.

Then this goes into Reaction_Standard

[REACTION:BAR_GLASS_GREEN]
[NAME:make green glass bar]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:BLOCKS:NO_SUBTYPE:GLASS_GREEN:NO_MATGLOSS]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BAR:NO_SUBTYPE:METAL:GLASS]
[FUEL]

Anyway, this works. It adds green glass as a weapon crafting metal, and people have shown up with them to trade etc. The only problem is that sometimes i get attacked by those Nasty Tree Hugging Hippies Elves, and they sometimes have glass items. That i cant melt down.

How do i enable a new metal to be able to "Melt them down for bars" at a smelter?

That's odd, so you can't designate them for melting, or the smelter just won't accept them as meltable materials?

I can designate them to melt. the red M shows up, but the smelter doesnt think that they are metal. It says "No metal items designated to melt" or some-such. But then if i designate a single iron sword, it melts that and then gives me the same message, even though i have piles and piles of glass scourges and greaves.

Thanks for trying to help BTW. i really enjoy this community.

It's possible the game still considers glass to be, well, glass. Since the glass furnaces don't make metal glass, if it's considered to be of that type the game won't melt it.

Sounds like a bug to me though. The game can't determine between the different matglosses. Might be worth posting in the bugs forum. Just make sure you post the raws for your metal glass so Toady can test it himself.

It's not glass though.  Real green glass is hardcoded.  This is just a new metal with the name 'green glass'.

rename the ID to TRANSPARISTEEL, that way there is no kind of material with that ID in the hardcoded stuff
