Nervous System Injuries
« on: August 10, 2009, 01:59:41 pm »

The wiki says that dwarfs with spine, brain, and nervous damage wont heal, but It was referring to red and yellow wounds. Will a brown wound to the lower spine ever heal? Is the dwarf who has it worth keeping in the military (he wont spar, though)? Should I step him down and replace him?

Even something as minor as a bruise to a body part that's involved in the nervous system will never heal.

This is why my dwarves don't get spears anymore.

He'll never spar again, but if he's skilled enough, that might not be a problem.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Just move them to the Department of Dwarven Veteran's Affairs Fortress Guard or give him a crossbow.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

They will keep practising with a crossbow, if they can still move.

And if they can't, he can make the nobles happy by protecting them as royal guard, permanently in his bed.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Aside question:

Do they still gain combat XP? (ie is training by combat still possible)

Yes. They just won't spar.

The *large serrated steel disk* strikes the Raven in the head, tearing apart the muscle, shattering the skull, and tearing apart the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

At 34 population, I dont have a Fortress guard yet, so I just un-activated him and replaced him with a peasant, I guess I could use him as a reserve since he has novice swordsdwarf and talented wrestler.

Yes. They just won't spar.

I hope that's just a work around and that minor nervous injuries will actually mean something the future.

I would make him sheriff or a fortress guard
