From the Dev log, musicians are planned and may even be in this release  ;D

07/19/2009: The training update is underway. Things should be quite a bit more organized now, as outlined in the list, with a few different activities for you to watch as the critters are training in the barracks. The framework for meetings and parties is going to be merged with the new training framework. This should allow dwarves at parties, for instance, to do single and group activities like playing instruments or dancing a bit more easily than it otherwise would have been. I'm not sure if I'll throw in any of that this time around, but it's possible, since there should be some very low-hanging fruit there.

Ahhh, finally a use for all those damn +Olivine Harp+.

While we're at it, it would be nice if all of those craft goods had uses at parties. For example:

1. If the dwarf hosting the party is wealthy enough, he may purchase a keg or two of booze and bring out some cups or mugs. Dwarves receive a happy thought for the alcohol based on it's strength and quality, and may get a happy thought from the mug itself if it's of high quality. Dwarves who like to throw parties (I think some of this is linked to their personality) may spend a portion of their money specifically on party items, and should receive a strong happy thought if the party is a success.

2. Child dwarves who throw parties may bring out toys to play with. Parent dwarves may buy toys for their children, or since children seem to make tons of money on their own they may buy toys themselves.

3. Dwarves may purchase and wear jewelry to parties. This could work into the grudge or friends system, some dwarves may get jealous while others may admire the wearer's fine taste.

4. Dwarves who like art or music might bring out instruments. Some dwarves may spend their break time practicing for the parties. This could cause happy/unhappy thoughts depending on if the dwarf likes music and the skill of the musician.

These are all good ideas, now instead of selling all these +Toy hammers+, -Pine flutes-, and (Iron mugs( we can use them to funk up partys  :o
