Mistake....

So I was gonna send my adventurer clad in adamantine and made a hatch so the people inside won't escape, I can't open it, so I embark to fix the problem, when I went back with the adventurer, the people inside got slaughtered by demons or fell down the glowing red hole.of dooooom

Yeah, usually when you go back everyone's dead.

I keep getting legends that say they survived and formed a new group, but I don't know where that group goes...

Yeah they wander it's pretty cool. My band of adventurer's once met up with an old fort of mine and we immediately attempted to recruit the several champions, none of whom were at all interested. We then tried to fight them and were slaughtered piecemeal by their Ultra-Super-Mega-Legendary abilities.

I had a wandering group from an abandoned fortress settle in a nearby ruined human town, so it is possible if the conditions are right.

Everytime you abandon a fort, all of those dwarves attempt to return to the parent civ and they get added to it. If you keep abandonning and reclaiming fortresses, you might get 'age of the dwarves' :D
