Goblins... and trolls?
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:45:48 am »

Is the Goblins-using-trolls thing still in the game? The wiki mentions it, but I have never once seen a troll accompanying a goblin army. I only finally saw my first mount-using attackers, and those were humans and elves. Still never seen goblins use beak dogs either.

I hear the beak dog this is rare because of limited biomes. Same thing for trolls?

I think the Goblins absolutely have to be within the right kind of Evil biome to have trolls or beakdogs.  Elves need to be in the right place to have unicorns, as well (But I do believe they'll use horses regardless).

In order for goblins to bring trolls with them on sieges, they need to have access to a chasm that has trolls within it. Trolls are damned rare, anyways, and getting a dark fortress next to a chasm that has trolls is very unlikely.

Beak dogs are slightly less rare, since they appear in evil jungle biomes, but a jungle next to a mountain with goblins in it is a similarly rare occurrence.

I've only seen trolls come in sieges once. And I've never seen goblins ride beak dogs.

The solution here is obvious.  We have to increase the biomes these beastly beasts show up on.

Modding your trolls and beak dogs to show up in mountain biomes is a certain way to let the goblins have them, as they allways settle on top of mountains.

You will see them wander about in mountains though. Might be a problem, but it might not be.

Does somebody know btw which tag in the entity default let`s goblins use trolls?

It seems like an unique thing, since no other race does that.

I'm guessing hard coded.

I'm guessing hard coded.

But something has to trigger that.  The civ name, maybe?

Probably tied to the 'evil civ' thing... could be tested by exchanging the 'evil' and 'plains' tags and seeing who shows up with what...

Clearly, what you need to do is give goblins the buildingdestroyer ability. Screw trolls.

Tell me how you do that. I'll probably want something similar for my next fort.

It could just be hardcoded into the "babysnatcher" tag, which also makes them give sieges and stuff.

the goblin civ has a tag called [USE_EVIL_ANIMALS]
trolls are evil animals.
trolls have a tag called [trAINABLE], but lack the [PET] tag or [PET_EXOTIC] tag.

this combination of tags makes trolls usable as trained war animals by civs that use evil animals, but not as pet animals or war animals by other non-evil civs.
