System of pumps
« on: August 07, 2009, 10:51:15 pm »

Basically, I'm creating a sculpture garden. I'm channeling it, then walling off the top, so it's light inside to cure cave adaption. It also has a system of waterfalls which should cover the entire perimeter. The only problem is that I need to elevate the incoming water one z-level:

How do I do this, hopefully making it automatic?

Hmm. Something to make note of before you go too far: Above ground waterworks on a freezing biome is a good recipe for 'fun'.

Okay, thanks.
kaypy, can I just build a floor over things, making them "inside", and preventing water there from freezing?

Unfortunately, freezing follows the 'once outside- always outside' pattern of most functions in DF. Its not so bad for water that is just sitting there, but anything involving splashing... well, even a 1/7 puddle is lethal to be standing on when the freeze comes...

Force the route to the statue garden above ground, but keep the zone and falls UG.  Consider making the route to your dormitories/barracks and dining hall AG too, and also thru the statue garden/water fall.  This forces dwarfs to walk AG and also thru the happy-thought land many times/day, you won't have a problem.

This is better than asking dwarves to stand outside in a harsh winter. (If the streams freeze, it's "harsh".)

this would also prevent it from curing cave adaption
