Lack of Dumping.
« on: August 07, 2009, 12:04:03 pm »

I have items, old goblin clothing mostly, marked for dumping and an active dump zone but they seem intent on filling the Finished Goods zones with items marked for dumping instead of dumping them. Any idea why?

By any chance are they outside?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It might be that the dump site can't be accessed, or you have, by mistake, set them to be (h)idden instead of (d)umped.(Happened to me once)

The usual list of solutions.
1. are dwarves set to gather refuse from outside? They need this on in order to dump outside goods.
2. is the dump site accessible?
3. Are the items owned? Dwarves have issues with dumping owned things.(And some dwarves, mostly nobles, enjoy gathering goblin clothes)

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

I figured it out. It was too accessible. One side of the dump zone was a shaft to lava and the other was the edge of a cliff. The dump zone was overlapping the edge of the cliff and they were tossing stuff off there as well as into the lava so they weren't being destroyed as I had planned.

de-<a>ctivate the one refuse zone until everything else is gone.  (Make sure you aren't cleaning up anything you want to keep - this is a classic source of fun.)
