The Correfoc: a (flaming) alternative to mermaids
« on: December 05, 2009, 07:12:36 pm »

I just had an idea. Instead of trying to farm merpeople, let's mod in a different creature with a crazy multiplier (between 30x-50x) than CAN be tamed and butchered... but with a caveat: It's on fire.

All dwarves handling the creatures would have to be wearing either no clothes or fireproof clothing (dwarves themselves currently don't actually burn, right?) and all structures (kennel, restraints, butcher) would have to be fireproof as well. Logistics would have to be very carefully taken care of. it would be called a Correfoc, after a festival in Barcelona.

It's not as dwarfy as trying to farm mermaids, but at least it would be more interesting than the vanilla livestock... Anyone like this idea?

That's be cheating with such a high multiplier :P
The fun about mermaids are how restricted their biomes are, how ridiculous it is to actually capture them, and the fact they're sentient.

I guess, although cave spiders are easier to keep once you've tamed them than a flaming cow, and they're 20x...

I've been wondering, what is it that keeps sentient beings from being butcherable? The biggest thing I don't like about mermaids is you can't make soap out of them (or meals, or leather).

EDIT: I just checked on cave spiders; they only produce 1 piece each of fat and leather, and a bunch of meat... Maybe if we set the modvalue of the correfoc to 20x, and limited their habitat to hidden fun places?

As far as I'm aware it's down to civ ethics.

Not a bad idea... Mostly I want to know if a flaming, tameable creature would even be feasible.

*Buzz* Wrong. You will, occasionally, in the normal running of a fortress, see !!Urist!!s.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

I'm fairly certain those would cause the dwarves inhabiting them to combust.

the leather I believe keeps the fire immunity, but does not cause fire when worn.
However, I believe you're referring to fire imp fat which Can indeed cause fires.
