Graphics Sets; Minimum Tile Types?

Alright, so I'm nuts. I'm making a graphics set for a 9x9 tileset. To be fair, it's only for the sentient races, including some mod additions.

However, in keeping with the standard set for the default dwarves, I want there to only be two tiles per race; one for civilians, one for soldiers.

The "general texture options" listed are DEFAULT, ADVENTURER, GUARD, ROYALGUARD, SKELETON and ZOMBIE; the demo graphics has the DEFAULT:DWARVES tile as a grayscale set to have its color changed as per the normal game. Would using the GUARD tag in place of DEFAULT apply a given graphic to all soldiers?

no, replacing the second DEFAULT tag with GUARD would apply the graphic to fortress guard soldiers. you want to replace the first DEFAULT with a soldier proffession, like hammerman.
