War with an elf civillisation.
« on: August 05, 2009, 12:30:21 am »

My current fort has two elf civs. I'm at war with one, but no hints of an ambush or anything from them. Does this come later, such as when I have a king? Or are they just bluffing?

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

My fort has a war with elves and they sent a 15 elf ambush in the first Spring season.

Yep, if you're at war with a civilization, they should be trying to break down your doors from the outset.

What year are you in? You might need to wait a bit for them to come.

Remember, they'll only come in spring.

Remember, they'll only come in spring.

(Well, that's what they always promise you.)

Might need to get your Created Wealth up a bit.  Altho' "war" is usually fairly wide open.

Have fun!

do elven sieges have a similar presumed trigger goblin ones do? i.e. certain amount of wealth/population of 80?

just curious...

Elves like to stealth, even their sieges.

I've had elf thieves (and child nappers, but I modded that) show up about the same time the gobbos do (roughly within a year).  About a year or two after that ambush squads started showing up, and then another year or two and there were sieges.  It depends on wealth and what happened before.

I find that goblins that are able to steal things and or snatch kiddies come back for more and they bring friends, similar to kobolds.

The child kidnapper tag sets the civilisation to trigger at the wealth, population and such levels to bring sieges( I think), but an all out war with say, an elven civilisation(Or even a goblin civ at war) will mean they can send sieges and ambushes right away, for no apparent reasons.

Elves seem to always arrive in spring, even when at war. (At least as far as I know)

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

I'm in something like the 10th year, 6 million-odd created wealth, and all I get in the spring is a single elven caravan. No sieges from anything but goblins.
It's possible that the elves entered as stealth ambushes, encountered nothing, and stayed there, but a hunter would have surely discovered them by now.

They're on the civ list, so I encountered them, surely, but I've not had hostile elves that weren't leading goblins.

Just to be sure, piss off the elves you are friendly with.  Then the sieges will come.

How can you tell if you've got multiple civs of the same race around?

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Because you made sure about important details like that pre-embark, using the <Tab> key to cycle thru all that info, same as when you checked all your biomes and layers, elevation and so on.
