You can have your carpenters make shields, too.

Without wood, this is unfortunately not an option either, I would guess.  The setup sounds like one that's necessarily going to be a challenge... that's part of the fun of this game, after all.

I'm talking about the bronze colossus. It's supposed to be made entirely of bronze.
But really he's just a softie inside. They all are really. When megabeasts come to your fort you never welcome them inside and give them a hug, do you. You heartless bastards...

Maybe less of a challenge now; I just found a magnetite cluster, and a patch of lignite.

Turns out there was a sedimentary layer I didn't notice.

Don't think it's on this map.

Okay, someone has a broken lower spine. Will this ever heal?

No. Time to make them a marksdwarf, because they won't spar ever again.

EDIT: If they aren't too tough, they're excellent for use in the guard, since they can't train, they won't get stronger, and will deliver light beatings and do escorts of prisoners.

Or rather, will they ever get out of bed?

Justice isn't a worry; I kill all the nobles other than the useful ones.

I have seen some dwarves manage to recover from a red spine, but it never fully goes away. It will take a long time to heal, in any case.

I thought spine wounds don't heal, like a guy with a brown spine wound, as of the dwarf, give the guy a bedroom watch tower and marks dwarf profession.

That's what I thought, too. It was in an older version (now deleted) so I can't replicate or provide proof. I may even have cheated with tweak.

It's likely Urist McHalfback isn't going to do to much ever again.

The only sparring injuries I've had (yet) are one broken leg and one broken arm. The only dangerous part about both was that it took a week or two for any of my other dwarves to put them in a bed and feed and water them. That was annoying. I have all my melee fighters in complete iron getup with a wooden bucklers (excess wood and legendery carpenter = plenty of bucklers). Those have been the only to injuries in 5 years.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.
