SPOILERS HFS Aftermath - Coffins and Corpses
« on: July 29, 2009, 03:56:49 pm »

I opened up and cleared out the the glowing pits.  The previously trapped humanoids wandered around until they died of dehydration.  Partially to avoid rotting corpses miasmaing up the place, and partially so the skulls of these poor souls would not be placed in my skull pile (I'm stockpiling the skull of every sentient thing my dwarves have killed in defense of the fortress), I had their bodies thrown in the lava.  The problem is, I have discovered that the dwarves of the underworld each got a coffin reserved for them, even though there's nothing left.  Removing the coffins does no good - when I replace them they're immediately designated for another of the dwarves.  Is there anything I can do besides leaving an empty coffin for each dwarf that came out of the pits?

Dwarves bury their own, even if they come from the terrifying glowing hells. Sadly, there's nothing you can do about it.

The same thing happens with dwarves who attack your fortress with goblins. They get buried, too. Once a dwarf, always a dwarf.

Have them buried in an area that you will later flood with magma.

This could explain why i'm having a dwarf cage problem. An invading dwarf (goblinised) can't be put in any other cage, and I can't remove his cage.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Of course, the solution to the 'invading dwarf in cage' problem is a five-letter word with two Ms in it.

But yes, dwarves will toss dwarves in coffins, no matter where they're from. I'm unsure if that's a quirk of the programming due to there being no way of excluding non-residents, or an intentional move to show that a dwarf is still a dwarf, even if he turns up holding a pike and leading a goblin siege.

The *large serrated steel disk* strikes the Raven in the head, tearing apart the muscle, shattering the skull, and tearing apart the brain!
A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.
