Need squad help!
« on: July 21, 2009, 08:43:53 pm »

This guy just won't move, regardless of whether I station him anywhere. He doesn't even move for food or drink when I unpause. What's the issue?
I'm trying to get him to attack some Gorillas. Just how suicidal is this if he has a companion wrestler and ~8-10 war dogs with him?
Edit: sorry, here's the screenshot

Edit: My other guy insists on doing this too, even when he's in his own squad.
PLEASE someone help.

It's a bug. Just cause a cave in next to em to knock em away and it should unstick em. As for the Gorillas, 2 Champion wrestlers and 8-10 War Dogs is more than enough. If the worst comes to worst, the Dogs'll act as decoys and stop your Wrestlers getting harmed.

Just try and let the Dogs go in first. Set the Wrestlers to not chase animals until you're ready. Dogs are good meat shields :p

God, that annoys me.
Is there any other way to counter the bug? Something less time consuming?

Try setting a patrol route.

The resulting party killed 20 dwarves, crippled 2 more and the remaining 9 managed to get along and have a nice party.

What about taking him off duty (or out of the military completely) and then putting him back.

Set all your dwarves to be in their own squads, and then flick through them using the squads menu while rapidly pressing 'x' to delete any patrol points.

When dwarves are put into squads with existing patrol or station orders, sometimes the orders stick despite being in a squad with different orders. So you need to remove all those orders and then maybe the dwarf will behave properly again.

FINALLY found the problem, completely by accident.
basically they were all standing down, and to them instead of sparring that meant "go and stand by an empty barrel while Gorillas harass all of the war dogs stupid enough to wander INTO SEVEN OF THEM."
Sorry for the hassel, guys.
