Putting mods in folders(nvm)
« on: July 13, 2009, 10:48:30 pm »

Basically I want to put my mods in folders so that they are easier to find and edit.

Last time I tried this the mods were not recognized. To clarify I was in the objects folder creating more folders.

p.s. I did check the wiki but didn't find it.

What's the deal with the (nvm)?

Also, I don't believe you can put them into folders, but you can easily separate them through file names.

For example, if you have two mods:
Magma Weapons
Super Dogs

both of which come with, say, an item_weapons.txt file (which is a really odd mistake to make), as well as miscellaneous files, you can rename them to things like:

MagmaWeapons_item_weapons.txt
SuperDogs_item_weapons.txt
SuperDogs_creature_superdogs.txt

You can then separate them by name.

P.S.

In the off chance I'm wrong about being able to have suffixes on file names (i.e. ammo items must always start with ammo_xxx), please ignore me.

But then you could make item_weapons_superdogs.txt :).

Luckily it's not an issue. You can have ANY filename as long as the first string in the file is the same (I don't know why Toady made it this way).

The [OBJECT:***] token shows the game which type of data is stored in this file.

But you can't put them inside folders because the game doesn't recognize them. A couple of mods even use that in order to have files for crazy things that some people want in the mod and others don't without those people having to sort through and find them.
